A businessman for over 20 years, Scott has invaluable training for the role of Mayor: oversight, integrating multiple departments, stream-lining, delegating, goal-setting, budget management, building consensus but also sometimes making tough decisions. His experience also includes public speaking and Scott is comfortable setting agendas and presiding over meetings.
Married 29 years, Scott and his wife Ellen have three adult children and are proud grandparents. Four generations of the Korthuis family live within the city limits: these long-time residents care about property rights, schools and safety. Scott wants his grandchildren to be able to live and work locally -- this means living-wage jobs need to be available. And, as a businessman in city, Scott has a vested interest in Lynden's economic viability and sustainability.
